An older man came up a few dollars short at the grocery checkout. The person behind him covered the difference without making anything of it, and the line moved on. That few dollars turned out to be dinner with his grandson that night. He came back later to say so — the only reason anyone knows how it ended.
Two students were sitting out a detention. One noticed the other was drawing and said the sketches were good. That was the whole thing — one sentence, in a room neither of them wanted to be in. They became friends and stayed friends. He still draws, for a living now, and still tells people where he got the nerve.
On his way into a job interview, a man held the door for an older gentleman, then bent to pick up the notebook he had dropped. He thought nothing of it and went to go wait. The gentleman turned out to be the one doing the interview. He got the job, and stayed fourteen years.
